A long-necked duck and with a long pointed tail. Male with head, and stripe down the back of neck, brownish; back and sides barred with white and black wavy lines.
Nest. - On the ground like the other ducks, well-lined with feathers generally placed near the water, laying from 6 to 12
eggs of a dull olive color (2.20 x 1.50).
Range. - North America.
